When: Thursday, March 1st, 4:00 and 6:30 PM. Students may come to the time that is most convenient for them.
Where: Family Karate PQ
Who: All students may participate in this event. Be sure to invite family and friends to share in the excitement!
Benefits: Children’s Heritage Foundation

Family Karate’s own CHRISTIANA COULAPIDES (First Degree Black Belt) is involved with Children’s Heritage Foundation and will be traveling to Haiti and Uganda to help with their missions this Spring.  Your donations will help the Foundation provide gifts, food, medicine and other needed supplies.

Uganda Mission: During the 20-year rebel war waged by the Lord’s Resistance Army in northern Uganda, hundreds of thousands of families were displaced from their villages. They’ve had to relocate to Internally Displaced Person’s Camps (refugee camps) in the town of Gulu. Since the 2006 peace process, many have returned to their villages but are struggling to start over. They lack important resources that are necessary to rebuild their lives including: basic community infrastructure and viable economic opportunities.

Haiti Mission: On January 12, 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earth quake struck the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince. Over 250,000 died and hundreds of thousands homeless. The earthquake is a tremendous blow to this poor nation, from which it will take years to recover. Children’s Heritage Foundation is spearheading the rebuilding of the Good Rest Orphanage in Port-Au-Prince.

Purchase boards from the lumber store

  • Students under the age of 7 need #2 pine 1″ x 12″ x 3″
  • Students ages 7 – 10 need # 2 pine 1″ x 12″ x 5″
  • Students 10 and older need #2 pine 1″ x 12″ x 10″

When you go to the lumber store, you will find the boards sold in long sections that measure 1″ x 12″ x 4′, 6′, 8′ or 12′

Have them cross-cut the board at 3″, 5″, or 10″ sections (as needed depending on your child’s age). You will probably end up with left over boards, and that will work well, as you can save them for other Break-A-Thons.

White – Yellow belts may bring one board

Gold – Red belts may bring up to 5 boards

Junior Black Belts, and all adult students, may bring up to 10 boards

Additional information can be found on this instructional video.

Come to Breakathon with donations collected, your boards, and a positive attitude!

Feel the power of breaking boards, and more importantly helping people!

Your instructors will be there to help/hold boards for the students – and the students already know the moves that will break the boards! We break up into small groups and parents can come out onto the floor with their cameras.

We look forward to seeing you at the Break-A-Thon!
